Ahead of its March 20 theatrical release, the first five minutes of The Pout-Pout Fish have been revealed, giving audiences an early look at the animated feature from MIMO Studios and Like a Photon Creative. As shared by Animation World Network, the newly released opening scene introduces the film’s vibrant underwater world and its star-studded voice cast, led by Nick Offerman.
The clip offers a first glimpse at the look, tone and humor of the eagerly anticipated adaptation, setting the stage for the heartfelt and hilarious journey to come. From its richly detailed ocean setting to its warm, expressive character animation, the opening establishes the signature blend of comedy, heart and visual spectacle that defines the film.
Adapted from the New York Times bestselling children’s book series written by Deborah Diesen and illustrated by Dan Hanna, which has sold more than 10 million copies since its debut in 2008, The Pout-Pout Fish follows Mr. Fish (Nick Offerman), a gloomy introvert convinced he is destined to spread his gloom, and Pip (Nina Oyama), an energetic young sea dragon. Together, the unlikely duo set out on a daunting quest to find a legendary fish and save their homes.
The 3DCG feature boasts an impressive voice cast that also includes Miranda Otto, Remy Hii, Jordin Sparks and Amy Sedaris. Ricard Cusso directs the film with co-director Rio Harrington, working from a screenplay by Elise Allen, Elie Choufany and Dominic Morris.
The Pout-Pout Fish is produced by Australia-based Like a Photon Creative alongside MIMO Studios and Macmillan Publishers, with MIMO’s Cyma Zarghami and Madeira Ginley producing together with Like a Photon Creative’s Kristen Souvlis and Nadine Bates. With its theatrical debut fast approaching, the release of the opening scene marks an exciting milestone in bringing one of the world’s most beloved picture-book characters to the big screen.
